omc outdrive engine swap from 4.3 to 454

looking at getting 87 omc cobra out drive that is bolted up to 4.3 chevy and wanting to put cobra drive to 454 will cobra unit handle it and bot up or what do i need to do to make it work. right now i have a eliminator with a surface drive that i do not like and i can get complete boat with 4.3 cobra cheap that moto is looked up any advice will held thanks

Besides the ratio not being right, I would not trust the Cobra with that much HP.

You'd be fine with a Cobra and a 454. It would have to be the one that is 1.43:1 ratio, holds 108oz of drive oil, and says "King Cobra" on the side, and looks like the one on the right in the picture below.

The one above was behind a OMC (Ford) 460

If you put one of the drives from a 4.3L V-6 behind a 454, it will break.

Don't go to that much trouble and install a King Cobra drive. The coupler is NLA along with a few other parts. You'll get a few more HP, but as soon as something breaks, you're SOL.

Actually the 454 coupler IS still available. But I still wouldn't do it!

If you want HP and a good drive, Get a Bravo I II III
