5.0 1988 omc Starcraft 22' offshore fisherman, 440 hrs. This boat was always maintained professionally and is in excellent condition. Recently I was experiencing a jumping in the shift mechanism.(Forward gear) I am aware of the past problems of cables and gears on these outdrives. I have adjusted everything to specifications and still notice an occasional thud. My thinking is the clutch dog is starting to wear. Is there any method of checking without disassembly? Are any of the special tools required for repairs available? Thanks in advance
