Hey there I have a sea ray 16 ft boat with inboard 4 cylinder OMC engine inboard. I belive its a 1.8L 120hp from 1979. Took it to the water and noticed the temperature was goin passed the middle and then to the "hot" temp. Started to smell and smoke so I shut it off. Jump into the water and see that there was like lots and lots of sea weed caught on it. got it all removed and cruised my way back to the dock. Temp was fine on the way back to the dock reving about 2500rpm. Cruised for about 10 min and then the temp shot up again. So I shut it off didnt bother driving it anymore. I got someone to tow me back to shore. When we unloaded the boat there was like tons of seaweed caught on the propeller. Im talking its wraped in there where there is lots of restritions on the propeller when you spin it. I took it home and ran a garden hose through it and it ran fine no overheating. Would the seaweed be the reason for the over heating? Since I overheated it twice is there something I should check to make sure every thing is ok? Head gasket etc? THanks
