Hello, I have an '89 Olympic 2600 w/ 225 OMC Sea Drive and the power head needs replacing so I'ld like to swap it out for a non-Sea Drive motor. The transom is not cut out cuz the sea drive keeps it far enough away from the transom to clear it. If I purchase a late model 225 Merc, Yama, or Honda will I be able to bolt it up to the transom without any problems concernng clearance. Also am I going to have to purchase new cables and hoses in order to make it all work? I'm a newby to the big boat scene so keep that in mind. Also money is an object. Thank You and I greatly appreciate any info.

You wll need a bracket (i.e. Armstrong, B Bracket, SS Marine, etc.) to use one of your motor choices. The Sea Drive is essentially a motor and bracket in one piece. You might be better off $'s wize with a rebuilt powerhead.

Jim is right on Sturg....the transom bracket for the Sea Drives were made for the Sea Drive only.

Sturg - Last summer I had one of my two 1987 1.6L V4 SeaDrives go south. My alternatives were to buy a rebuilt to factory specs powerhead (like new) or completely repower with a new carbed 200 Yammy with bracket, controls, cables etc for $15,000.00. Easy choice for me.
