OMC sealing compound substitution

To reassemble the water pump on my 1988 Evinrude 88 spl You are supposed to use OMC Gasket sealing compound, for under the gasket, OMC Adhesive M for the impeller o ring. Since I do not have these products on hand could I use something else like Permatek for the gasket? And I have no ides what I would use for the OMC Adhesive M. I just don't want to buy a tube of some expensive OMC stuff that I will never use again.

Permatex with the brush in the lid will work fine for the gasket. As for the o-ring, any stickum to hold it in there till you get it installed will be OK. None of those particular applications are critical.

I used some silicone to glue the Oring into the pump housing. I also used the Permatex wit a brush on the SS insert, as spec'd by OMC
