OMC Selectrim Problem

I have an OMC Sterndrive, Model 432SPMRCOM. The Selectrim hydraulics no longer hold the motor in position. The motor can be moved up and down with the control lever mounted switch, plenty of oil in the resevior, and no leaks detected anywhere in the system. After a few minutes the front of the motor just settles to the mounts. My Sealoc manual covers assembly, but doesn't get into trouble shooting the system. What is the likely solution?

Welcome to Iboats.

Sounds like the jack has lost it's seal internally. Best bet is to look on Ebay for a factory manual.

Probably 1 cylinder is leaking internally. Then of course they both drift because they're plumbed in parallel. If you run it up and down several times and one cylinder is getting warm, that's the leaker. You may also be able to hear oil hissing through the bad cylinder with a stethoscope. It could also be in the pump unit as well. There's directional valves responsible for directing oil to base end or rod end of the hydraulic cylinders... the "raise" one can hang open I'm sure.

Re: OMC Selectrim Problem

Hey Guys, thanks for the info. You are confirming my suspicions. Since few things fix themselves I'm going to have go to work on it myself. Must confess interium solution: determine best all around trim setting, measure length of exposed trim piston rods, cut one pair 2X2's to lenght, duct tape to each rod, let motor settle, wire down motor. This will have to do until I get time to work on the problem. If anyone has anymore useful info please pass it along. Thanks!
