Hello all

Just replaced the shift cable sleeve and was wondering if any one had experience with them ,the original one was cut back about 5 inches but still well above water line . The new one is longer and with the height it would be difficult to route behind steering bar and have no effect the shift plate . Does any one know if it was commen practice to cut or adjust sleeve to fit and ,how far above the water line does it have to be to be safe ?thanks

I haven't worked on stern drives in some years ( all outboards), but how do you cut back that sleeve ?? Never had to do it.

If you are talking about the rubber tube, don't cut it back. When backing up or if waves are hitting the back of your boat, water will enter that tube and go up it. The higher it is, the better,

Yes I'm defiantly hesitant to cut it back ,but it has to close to the level of.the motors shift plate to work correctly . I should have saved the old one to make sure ,I took it apart in the spring and just got the motor back in . I have a photo of the old set up ant it looks like it was cut back . I was just wanted to know has anyone ever cut there's back depending on the boat it was in . Hers is a photo of the motor with the old sleeve looks shorter
