I am just wondering if there is a way to tell by looking I at it if I have the older "bad" shift cable in my OMC. I have a 1989 Four Winns 205 with a 5.0L Ford. I just got it out and I pulled the drive to check things out and found my drive shaft bellow had a tear in it. Just going through it. Replacing the gimbal bearing. It was starting to get a bit noisy at the end of the year. Though while I had it off I would change the shift cable if I needed to. Thanks

If the cable is binding, replace it & do the shift cable adjustments & you're good to go. Btw, pump some grease into those u-joints to force the water out from the torn bellows.

The cable isn't binding. It worked fine last year. I just thought I would check while I have the drive off. Yes I plan on pumping the u joints with grease, etc. I will double check the cable adjustment according to the update. I have all the tools needed. I have done it already on another outdrive. Thanks for the help
