OMC Shift Probelms

New Boat -- 1989 Sea Nymph with 3.0 OMC. Making repairs and nearly have them licked but even the Marina does seem to help me with this.

When I shift from neutral to reverse the engine stalls. Only way I can get it in reverse is to pull out the throttle lever, give her some gas, and quickly go back in gear and then reverse. Its hard to dock in the wind this way!.

Marina has installed new shift cable (I belive) they say they have adjusted it but its still not working.

Any help woulld be approciated.

What RPM does the engine idle at? If its low then as soon as you go into gear, the added strain on the engine of turning the prop will stall it for you.
Do you warm the engine up first or go straight into gear?

Sounds like they did not adjust the cable correctly.Most shops don't work on OMC anymore so its hard to find a place to adjust the shift cable the right way.It should idle around 600- 700 rpm in gear in the water...
