I just boat another boat, vintage 1977.
It has a 1977 Evinrude, with the Evinrude Simplex controls.

They seem to be in good working order, as are the cables.
They may need a bit of adjustment.
And the throttle friction knob doesn't provide much friction.

Are these controls still reliable, or should they be replaced?

I would sure feel better having controls that could not be shifted into gear by accident.

What do you all think?

Can anyone recommend a replacement that would use the old cables?

Sure would be nice to have a kill switch too.
