I am in the process of rebuilding a 1970 sportcraft . It has a omc stringer sterndrive. The problem is with the steering cable. Its about thrashed. salt water got to it. I went to marine shop and was informed they do not make them anymore, but they make a replacement for about $500. Don't want to spend that if I don't have to. Any ideas where I could pick one up?

I sold one on eBay a couple of years ago. It was mint and went for $90.

Check your length and keep an eye out on ebay. A lot of these boats or motor /drives are getting scrapped and these things show up all the time. Just keep looking. DO NOT buy one that is too long.

Goes your system have the kind that has two 1/8 inch braided steal cables in a housing ? If so and just the inner cables are bad I've have replaced the cables in mine 10 years ago. I'll check in later to see if this is the case. If so I'll tell how it was done. Jeff
