Re: OMC Steering synchronizer
I share your pain, I also have twin Sea Drives ('84 1.6ls) and know at one time our boat also had an OMC Synch valve. I know because boat came with almost all component installation manuals, including one for the OMC synch valve.

For the most part the synch valves only function @ hard over to align motors.

I also have a bit of a homemade set up in place of the synch valve (shade tree for sure!!!). I now believe it will function OK (see below)

Please elaborate on your set up / line routings.

I'm not sure what set up you have, but my incorporates what's known as a hydraulic tie line principle between the two motors. My OMC Sea Drive Manual has a complete section dedicated to the topic of steering set ups, including the synch valves.(It also has a complete section dedicated to the Sea Drive unique t&t assy). If you don't have one, you'll need it sooner or later.

Our dilema was we couldn't keep the motors aligned. For the most part @ cruising speeds the motors would run straight. Any turning @ slows speeds (ie docking) would cause the motors to get grossly misaligned. Needless to say we have a few "funny now" docking stories!

I am now confident there is air trapped in the steering lines, although we tried to bleed system countless times, system doesn't leak and holds pressure. I now know that the steering cylinders need to be removed from bracket and raised to properly bleed (exactly what we have not done yet!). This is required due to the line routings, there is a large "loop" which can trap air.

First chance to vent on my issues. Let's swap set up descriptions and go from there.

Rob K.
