OMC Stern Drive Model# Year

I recently obtained a 19' Renken with an OMC stern drive and was hoping someone could help me out with year and if it is Cobra or Stinger drive. Model number taken from plate on drive is 982740. Serial # J313367. I am going to junk the boat because all I wanted was the trailer. Maybe someone could use the stern drive which was in good shape the last time boat was in water. I hate to take it to the landfill if someone could use it.

If it has a big rubber boot on the transom, it is a stringer. If it has a couple of hydraulic rams to lift the outdrive it is a cobra. What year is the boat??

It has no hyd rams and a rubber boot so it must be a stringer. Not sure of year of boat. It was given to me and all I wanted was the trailer. Original owner didn't know year of boat. I believe it is a 1982-83. It was running last season and the stern drive worked fine but he let the motor seize and didn't want to try to fix it. Many good parts on the boat and I wish I could use them but I have two boats with O/Bs and can't use any of the parts. Going to junk boat at local landfill and keep trailer.

A little time and you have yourself a bit of cash there. If the drive is OK Ebay it. Youd be surprised just how much demand there is and how easy it is to do.

Post some pictures. Sounds like you are about to waste alot of potential moolah.
