OMC Stern Drive suddenly won't raise up

My 1988 Four Winns Horizon (5.0L) OMC stern drive won't raise. Motor will whir and it will lower, but when I try to raise it all I hear is a clicking and the drive won't go up. Was working fine until today. I don?t know where to start. I?ve seen similar threads on this topic. But I don?t want to post to an old thread.

Looking ahead in case I need to purchase a replacement.... will this work on a 1988 Four Winns Horizon with an OMC 5.0L (OMC502APRGDP)?

Better description of situation.

Pump motor works to lower outdrive when pushing lower part of button on shifter. When push upper part of button on shifter, can hear click (solenoid?) but motor does not work and outdrive does not raise.

Swap the two relays and see if the problem moves.

Looking at the manual I have, which is a few years newer than your drive, the 2 relays may be in a fixed module so you may not be able to do a swap.

Of course, you could always reverse the wires going to the pump and see if it operates in reverse!

have you checked the reservoir for oil?

Good news... issue is a non-issue. The connection was loose (see picture). Cleaned and tightened it and all works great again.

That is what the problem was when that happened to me.. unplugged it and plugged it back in andc works fine ever since
