how is the shift cable released from the lower unit, the boat side has a nut 3/4, thats easy. the outter side has a 4 inch slide, my problem is that the slide moves with the nut?!?!?!<br />88 larson 4.3 with an omc cobra

Amazing timing! I was just fighting with mine last night. Did finally get it off.<br /><br />I had to loosen the 3/4" nut by starting it with a wrench and then turning the entire pivot unit around it to further unscrew it.

DID YOU LEAVE THE SLIDE AND SHIFT LEVER ASSEMBELED OR DID YOU TAKE IT ALL OFF DOWN TO THE BRASS SLIDE.?

If you want to remove the shift cable from the pivot housing, you NEED TO loosen and remove the slide.<br />Your service manual should have the correct instructions step by step. I believe it says to remove the retaining bolt on the slide and the metal retainer (by unscrewing it c/c).<br /><br />I too had to hold the 3/4" nut with a wrench and turn the whole pivot housing. :) <br /><br />Hope this helps.<br />Lou
