I have a '68 - 17' semi-v with a 120hp inline4 GMC with an omc out-drive. Boat is old but in good shape and engine runs smooth. Father-in-law had outdrive rebuilt and hardly used it since. It's been sitting up for most of 8-10 years. I have a Chilton and have been fixing up the boat and engine to get in trusty shape. I know the engine has a water pump but also has an impeller in the outdrive for raw water. I'm sure is it dry rotted/ hard and needs changing.I understand it is a JOB! How do you know it is working properly? My first i/o. I'm use to outboards with pee stream indicator the pump is working. I plan to add a 15hp Merc on a buddy bracket for backup and trolling. Are these reliable engines and drives?<br />Any advice on wether it is worth keeping and fixing up?

Re: OMC Stern Drive

Change the impeller, do some routine maintenance, run the boat. I have a Stringer 800 and there is a "pee" stream that comes out of two holes to cool the ball bears. That's a good indicator.
