On long trips, when we get about 7miles or so on her something slips and the rpms shoot up, like a clutch slipping in a car, anyone have any ideas what could be causing this or how to fix it?

Electric shift?? It could be the oil is too thick.Needs to be around 70-75wt. 85/90's too thick.Had any water in the lower unit?Could be a clutch dog going bad.Non electric:shift cable going bad.
Those OMC units were a nightmare from the start.J

It is electric shift, Not sure what weight oil the marina put back in, we were getting water in the oil so we had them completely reseal the whole unit.

For one thing if it IS electric shift it is NOT a 800 drive. It probably needs a drive spring and hub which to my knowledge are NLA,and like spark plugs and timing belts, are parts you don't buy used. That said, it could be a lube or electrical issue also.
