OMC Stringer help

I am finally putting together my stringer project. I have everything I need . My question is, is there a sealer needed between hull and new rubber boot? Also, someone before me has cut the outer steel that screws on the outside of the boot into the transom. It does not appear to be problematic with the twenty two or so screws holding into place. I have a manual but oddly enough I can't find anything out regarding the boot/transom seal.

Thanks,
Hal

Yes there is a seal made by 3M. I just cant think of the name. 3000 or something like that. Your local parts dealer would know. I wouldn't think that the ring being cut would be a problem will all the screws and the sealer. The last owner probably cut it so he could replace the boot with the outdrive still attached.

Thanks to all. So the cut ring is a problem or is not?

Re: OMC Stringer help

Hi, first post on here for me.

We have a Stringer electric shift (long type) approx 1972 and i know you guys are not keen on them but its what we have so we have to go with it (for now at least).
We started up the stern drive and the propeller spins beautifully but it is not picking up any water, our hearts sank and we decided to order a new water pump kit.
We do not know the last time the leg was used so we know it is always good practise to replace, the trouble is accessing the impeller. We can see it behind a disc, but the disc won't come off. do we pull it out or do we have to take off the nut by the ball gear at the top of the upper housing to allow us to drop it out? i read on one forum that replacing the water pump was easy!!

We have spent nearly 2 yrs in a field renovating our Princess 32 and would love to be on the river this summer.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. :) (we are new to this as you may have gathered)

Me thinks you need an OEM Factory Service Manual.
