Are there shear pins in the system OMC Stringer outdrive that can shear if the outdrive while in the down position hits something?

no, there is a clutch that should slip, but don't count on it.

There are shear pins on the horizontal shaft that coupler the tilt motor to the worm gear.

If the motor wont lift the outdrive could those pins be sheared? If so how do I get to them?

looking at the outdrive from back of boat. on port side, small football shaped cover. if the motor is not turning, you could have a bum motor.

Motor runs at a higher RPM then before when it was all working well. It sounds normal when I am putting the drive down.

sounds like theclutch might be slipping

put the drive up halfway,
stand on the lower unit
should hold you

Right on. I changed the clutch pack and all is well again.

Thanks
