Hi Guys....1977 OMC 235 hp with 800 series Stringer outdrive. Installing a new water pump kit. When I dropped the lower unit it remove the raw water pump, the shift cable is revealed. There is a spring clipped to it that obviously connects somewhere else at the other end. Don't see it in the manual. All advice appreciated.

If im not mistaken ,there is a hole in the intermediate housing casting that accepts the spring.

1977 OMC 235hp is an electric shift stringer not an 800 stringer.

It is electric shift....I stand corrected. I'll look for that hole in the intermediate....Thanks Gents!
