omc test equipment timing on 96 ocean runner

To set the timing on my 96 ocean runner Johnson the clymer manual says to use the 404317 module to set the timing on this motor. Are there any aftermarket testers or equipment that do this?? Or, is there another method ?

That special tool is only for the 60 degree motors with the OIS infrared ignition system, and it can time the motors without having to run them. A quality timing lite will work ok as the timer wheel on top of the motor is calibrated in degrees. Of course, use care and common sense when doing this.
