I have a 1978 Century with a 305. I would like to run the exhaust thru the transom. Has anyone done this? How is it done? It looks like one could go directly from the riser thru the tr.. Does this require special insulation at the transom? If I run the exhaust at the water line, can water get in the boat when the engine is off and sink it? How is water kept out of the engine when the boat is off and the exhaust is run through the lower unit? Thanks. William.

You might want to check out how the classic inboard runabouts like Chris-Craft and Century were designed, as they all had waterline exhausts.
