OMC tilt system

have a 1982 4winns with a 3.0 omc, replaced the tilt motor, still had problems with the motor going up or down. Took the gear apart and found that the pins were shattered. They appear to be hollow pins.<br /><br /> Do these pins need to be hollow for a safety reasons or can I put in solid pins?

I don't know why that would make a difference. Give it a try.

Those are sheer pins. They are meant to fail before damage takes place. Did you hit something recently?<br /><br />You could try solid pins, but I would replace with proper sheer pins once you firgure what your issue is.

I just bought the boat. I took it out on the water and tried to tilt the motor and all it did was click, took it out of the water and found these pins broke
