I'm really ticked off at the dealers who hoard up OMC parts, and triple the price, guys like me can't afford to get an their boat running. What I don't understand is that dealers are driving these parts up yet the value of an OMC is going down nobody wants them. Check this letter of reply from go2marine regarding the trim sender.

Hello, the OMC part number is 984748.This part went obsolete several weeks ago. Stone and Sons in Texas has them in stock. They have raised the price to $275.00. We sold them for $114.00 until two months ago.

Re: OMC trim sender price gouging

I hate to say this, but in response to the previous threads that asked what's wrong with buying a used OMC powered boat.......

THE COMPANY IS OUT OF BUSINESS! YOU ARE AT THE (current) PART SUPPLIERS MERCY!

Does anyone need ADDITIONAL clarification?

I feel for you having had an OMC stern-drive in my Four Winns Liberator.

Mine had some parts that are basically not available at ANY price!!

I'm sure you can find a trim sender at a lower price but you'll most likely have to do a lot of internet shopping to get one probably.

I had a lot of the same problems.

Good luck,

Rick

It's called supply and demand.............
Big demand, no supply. Want to guess the results?
Same with OMC 460 Couplers, and manifolds, and ..............

I catch it just like Bondo and several others.

Almost sounds profitable to pick up salvage OMC drives and sell them just for parts....you could probably sell the parts and make enough money to replace it with a different drive....

Are you talking about the sender on the hydraulic engine ram?
The only working part on it is a $5 potentiometer, with a plastic lever. I'm sure it can be fabricated easily.

Or watch eBay. I recently sold a good pump, hoses, 2 rams (1 with sender) for $150

As a matter of fact, this summer I sold a very clean '84 stringer outdrive for $2k locally. Then bought a 2 month old alpha outdrive for $1100, then all the other parts, coupler, Y pipe, inner & outer transom, steering cyl, gimble, rams, trim pump, all hardware (except engine) for $900.
