I was freshing up my carb up for the season, pulled it after work and went over it on the bench that night, the next morning I found out that I had left the key on and the battery was drained. I charged the battery installed the carb...started right up but had a rough idle so I had a fresh tuneup pack in the garage it had points, condenser and rotor prepackaged,my boat shop said oh you don't need a new cap as they don't go bad. It's a 1988 OMC 4.3L Book says to set points at .019 and the dwell to 37-41. I set points to 19 and the dwell is 25 so I re-adjust to .016 dwell goes to 39. before I could hit the key and started right up, now ....it cranks and cranks then starts.
1. Do the points sound right at .016?
2. now is it the carb giving me problems or the points?
3. cap?
4. what electronic ignition conversion does everyone like?
thanks
