I attempted to winterize my omc tubojet motor by tapping into the water intake, warming it up then having it suck antifreeze from a tank. Unfortunitly I tapped in wrong and basically ran the boat out of the water with no water running thru it for a few minutes I believe I may have burned up my water pump when I relized what I did wrong I tapped into it correctly but the boat just didnt seem to suck coolant from my tank.

how do I make sure my water pump isnt working.

how tough is it to replace.

Do you know of any manuals that can help me and what the cost of the waterpump maybe

I appreciate any help in this area my email address is rross30@aol.com if you need it but I will be checking this forum frequently

rross - Welcome! You will find plenty of help here. Perhaps more than you would like at times.

Don't know about the turbojet part but would think the waterpump would be the same as any other. First assume that your waterpump, or at least the impeller, is shot. They can be destroyed in seconds without water. You will have to dissamble to to determine if you need a complete pump or can just replace the impeller. It is a job that most folks with average mechanical skills, a bit of common sense and the normal driveway tools can do. Basically you drop the lower unit, remove the waterpump, repalce the bad parts and reassemble.

You need to get a manual for your motor not only for the waterpump but normal maintenance. This site also has a very valuable pile of information under the Search at the top of the page. Go to it and enter a search arguement like "OMC waterpump" (or simular) and you will see that this area has been covered many times and will have lots of tips for you.

On the cost - Waterpumps are not an expensive item to replace as far as marine stuff goes. When you get it taken apart take it to your marine "store" and get some prices.

Does not have water pump, water for engine comes from jetpump. I think you would have to pump the antifreeze thru the engine with a bilge pump in a bucket. Capt Ken could tell us how to do it.

I have the same motor. It is on a Boston whaler Rage. There is a service manual and I have even seen them on Ebay. I have the manual. It is titled TurboJet Service Manual 90,115. My engine in 1994 115. From the looks of the water flow diagram it appears the pump is under the power head. The Clymer (spelling) service manual is good too and I have checked it out from my local library. Hope this adds some insight.

I have a post on the board now regarding starting and rpm drop. If you have ever had similar please add your input as I would appreciate it. Just do a search for brokenboat

thanks

Annual winterizing of 1995 Boston Whaler Rage since new has consisted of adding st-a-bil with last full tank for final use,(first year did not, rebuilt carb.) run engine as boat is removed from water for count of 20 or when overheat alarm goes off which ever is sooner. Wait until engine is cool (next day) start and fog with fogging oil until stalls or overheat warning which ever is shorter, remove plugs and spray into cylinders and revolve flywheel to lubricate. Remove bottom plugs from boat so rain and snow does not turn engine compartment into large ICE CUBE (don’t laugh it did happen, no damage thank God) store inside or out at any temp. If you do not run St-a-bil start once a month for 30 to 40 count or over heat warning which ever is shorter. Top off Fuel tank & Oil tank to lessen condensation, remove or disconnect battery.

Love the boat and motor but I have found several flaws in motor: DO NO SERIUSELY OVER HEAT, if you do not get top rpms check one of four coils (I generally replace one per year so I always keep spare. People say it smokes alot but that is only at start up in my opinion, but this is because of gas evaporation and repriming fuel system. Bad primer will cause a run lean situation (dealer mechanic blame my burnt cylinder head on this(See coil)Next time this running situation occurred I changed parts until I solved problem which was a coil.

I have put over 300 hrs on engine since rebuild after third season. Hoping to have agreat 8th season when ice breaks, but not done yet. I
I have used this boat in every month of the year except January on Lake Erie or the Detroit River fishing walleye and drinking beer. It travels well(Florence AL, Lake Michigan and Lake Huron. Handles Shallows(10in" watch for weeds)and can take the waves 5' & 6' foorters on Erie and Michigan) and always behaves.

Sorry it got so long but Love the combo.

Jet Whale
Out!!
