I have a 1981 OMC upper housing. there are 6 phillips head screws that hold down the upper gear cover. How do you remove them. I tried a impact driver but they're still tight. any suggestions?
i had the same problem with mine and i used my impact screwdriver to tighten then loosen one hit eaxh way to break free. eventually they each let loose.....

If you have a torch with a fine tip, heat the heads then try.
If worse comes to worse ,drill the heads off then pull the screws out after the cap is removed. you can replace them with stainless allen flat heads.
