I have a 89' 1.6L sea drive v-4... Engine did not run when I got it. I rebuilt carbs, changed impellar and pulled heads to decarb. Had the sink and link adjusted at Castaic Marine. Ran good after that, but when engine is ran for awhile and I turn it off...its very hard to get it started or it will start, but when put into gear it dies right away. I got stuck out at Anacapa Island and it seemed to be running on 3 cylinders after putting in new plugs and kept trying to start it..it all of a sudden starting running ok..got to harbor and it just stopped. I changed the power pack and took it out again. Started it at home on my flusher and it was smoking alot out of the prop...more than ussual...did compression test...100 to 125..psi. Got the engine running, but it was running rough. Some oil dripping out of the prop area... when I looked at it in the morning... I took it out this past sunday and it ran ok...but when coming back to the harbor it died....and it would not start up again... I have't checked spark yet..to hot outside... brand new powerpack... maybe its no good... Getting real tired of this motor..it has 364 hours on it, when I bought it...18ft WellCraft C.C. 18fish. Any answers to help would be apprciated.... I think I need to buy a new engine.

Even a new engine can develop problems. I have a pair of 1988 SeaDrives on a 23'Wellcraft and they work just fine. You need to get input from someone far more knowledgeable than I but I suspect that you have an intermitent electrical poblem. As you mentioned checking spark is next step.

Thanks for emailing back. Funny thing is after the drive home. I hooked up the flusher, started it...fired right up. I know the senor assembly runs through the power pack. Wondering if maybe there is a problem with that. Any input would be helpfull.... Thanks again.
