It's time to repair or replace my OMC Seadrives. I have a pair of 1989's and one broke last year. Has anyone had luck with rebuilding these or suggestions about replacements?

I love the Perfomer hull they are on or I would consider a new boat, but that's not an option so can anyone give me suggestions?

Thanks.

You may get moved up to the Johnson/Evinrude category, but Sea Drives are kind of a different critter. They mount weird!

Rather than rebuilding, I'd advise a remanufactured powerhead. You get a good guarantee and a lot more new parts. That way you don't have to worry which piston will break next. ;)

I would think that to mount anything other than a Sea Drive you would have to hang them off jackplates or a twin outboard bracket. Jackplates may not leave enough room to tilt without the hoods going crunch, depending on your transom. Are those 20" longshaft models or 25" extra longshaft models?
