Hello guys,

Quick run down, last year I was having fuel pressure problems. I misdiagnosed my high pressure pump, so I took the number off the pump, crossed it over to a carter number and replaced it. Ok, fine. Turns out my problem was that I had a piece of foil (prob from a stabil bottle or something that fell in the tank while adding at some point) that was blocking the pick into my low pressure pump. Anyway, cleared that out and it ran.

The last two seasons I've noticed that my low pressure pump will ocassionally make whinning noise, sometimes just for a second or two, here and there. And sometimes it does it all the time while running. I know that fuel is leaking down from the pump back into the tank (verified with clear hose) and sometimes causes long cranking while it builds up fuel again. So this year I can afford to replace that pump, and I'm ready to do so.

Long story short, I'm having problems finding the correct pump. My boat is a 1995 Four Winns Sundowner powered by a Ford 302/OMC/VP 5.0Fi engine. I know that this was about the time that VP acquired OMC, and I know that some of my parts have omc numbers, others have VP numbers, so the parts catalog and look up can sometimes be somewhat confusing. Technically my engine says Volvo Penta 5.0Fi on the cover, and has an SX Cobra Drive.

The low pressure pump number on my original pump is 3850810. When I look it up in Volvo catalog, it shows two old numbers, followed by two current numbers with notes, one stating GM engine, other stating Ford engine. However, neither of the two numbers is what is stamped on my pump. The number in the Volvo catalog is 3858261.

When I cross the number from my pump, I get a Sierra number of 18-7331, and when I cross the Volvo listed 385261 I get a Sierra 18-7326. The Sierra catalog listing is not much help, and of course they do not post any specs as far as volume or pressure.

I'm stuck, I don't know if VP superseded all the numbers to the 385261 and my original number is not listed, or if the catalogs are just incorrect.

I want to make sure I get the correct pump, and I don't know what the difference is. They look identical (which looks identical to my high pressure pump also)

So, Do I go with the cross from the number on my pump, 18-7331 or go with the 18-7326 off the Volvo listing??

Has anyone run into this problem or know if they are interchangeable, or better yet know which one I really need to buy?

When I contacted Sierra, the tech guy really didn't have an answer for me, and basically read what their catalog says as far as applications for the two part numbers. It seems like it is stating the 18-7331 is for GM engines, and the 18-17336 is for the ford. And to make things worse, when you look at the app, and the oe numbers, it shows both my oe number, and the new volvo number both crossing to the two different sierra numbers.....

And better yet, they don't even show a 1995 as an option.....

What do I do? Any help please!

Thanks in advance!
