Is there a difference between OMC and Mercruiser engine blocks?
The boat I am currently looking at has a bad OMC 4.3 will a mercruiser bolt up or would I need to change the outdrive too?

The motors are Chevy V6's. It's all the accessories put on that engine that makes it OMC or Mercruiser, or Volvo, or .......................

The 4.3 is a GM engine. This engine is the same thing used in trucks. The marine version has a different cam. Merc is the same engine but you might have to swap all the externals to the OMC. configuration. Most marine engines are built by automotive manufacturers. It just proves simpler and easier to use existing technology rather than develop new. I am running a 305 GMC engine in my Baylinner with absolutely no problems. Now the bad news OMC has been out of production for some years. While I love my cobra most will dissuade people from buying a boat with OMC out drives.

So what your saying Don is I would just have to switch everything over to the mercruiser block?

Yes. that would be your least troublesome way to go.
