i am about starting to put my 1979 omc 175 HP back together. The new wrist pin bearings are loose (no cage needed). There is a spacer on that needs to be installed on both sides of the connecting rod to keep the bearings in place. The spacer can be put with the flat side towards the piston or the connecting rod. Which is correct????

Flat toward the piston so the smaller part is inside the rod.

They are a pain, huh? That's why they went back to the caged ones among other reasons.

Good luck!

Use some rebuild grease to hold the loose rollers in place along with the flat washers. Don't know the name of the stuff but can be bought at NAPA or other automotive stores. It thins out quickly upon startup and gives the bearings lubricant before she fires.

Thanks for the help. In a week or two, the old crossflow should be back on the water killing the spanish mackeral.
