I recently had my 251 Pro Line hauled by a boat transporter to my new home in R.I.and up to that point the on board battery charger was working. When I tried to charge my batteries the Battery Charge Switch on the panel would trip and shut down.I should mention that I have had this boat for ten years and never had this happen before.I checked in the dark space where my batteris are and couldn't see anything obviously wrong. Any frist step info is welcome

Skinny Dugan

Re: On board battery charger

Were the batteries disconnected during transport? If so, they were likely incorrectly reconnected upon arrival. If they were ot disconnected, one of the batteries could have been jostled hard enough that it developed a shorted cell internally. You apparently have more than one battery so I suggest you disconnect the wires at the POS terminal of one of the batteries and then activate the charger. If it now works, the battery you disconnected or something in the circuit you disconnected is the problem. If the problem still exists, reattach the wires and repeat the process for the other battery. It is also possible the batteries were deeply discharged and the initial current draw is greater than the rating of the breeaker thats popping. If you cycle the switch a few times -- watining a few minutes between cycles, you may find the charger will stay active.
