The anti-ventilation plate should be even with the bottom of the boat. With the setback you may gain a little by raising it an inch for each 4" of setback from the transom, but this is fine tuning and should involve testing and experimentation.

Here are pic of the set back plate<br /> http://www.shareaproject.com/imageUpload.php?i=3669 <br /> http://www.shareaproject.com/imageUpload.php?i=3670 <br /> http://www.shareaproject.com/imageUpload.php?i=3671 <br /> http://www.shareaproject.com/imageUpload.php?i=3672 <br /> http://www.shareaproject.com/imageUpload.php?i=3673 <br /> http://www.shareaproject.com/imageUpload.php?i=3674 <br /> http://www.shareaproject.com/imageUpload.php?i=3675 <br /> http://www.shareaproject.com/imageUpload.php?i=3676 <br /> http://www.shareaproject.com/imageUpload.php?i=3677 <br /><br />As you can tell its none adjustable so should I just mount it with the anti-ventilation plate even with the bottom are move it higher on the transom the plate is 2 foot 9 inch's<br />with this forumala I can raise it 8.25 inchs from the bottom

Re: ? on Installing setback plate

I take it back. That monstrosity is a bracket, not a setback plate.<br /><br />You will need to experiment with the height of the AV plate. You want the AV plate right at the water surface when the boat is on plane; not out of the water, but right at the surface.<br /><br />Don't mean to offend, but that thing (and the boat after it is mounted) is uuuuuugleeeee.<br /><br />Good luck. :)

OH MY GAUD! Where in the heck did you get this thing, from a barge? You might want to consider some trim tabs while your at it. How big of a boat are you mounting it too?

Re: ? on Installing setback plate

Can you have it cut down, it's too long. Check out a setback plate on line. The motor will be wwwaaayy back and all the weight with it. You need to get the motor closer to the boat. This will look like a motor mounted to a swim platform. What are you doing to the transom to support this rig?

I usually see those on really big boats (how big a boat are you using) the leverage is going to huge and I would think on a small boat when not moving would really put the motor much to deep in the water to the point of getting water in the cylinders <br /><br />Look at it this way on my 20’ boat 1” of boat position on the trailer makes about 200# difference in tongue weight<br /><br />Tommays

I think it can be done but not with this thing. Maybe you can compromise. Cut the back and build a platform, build in your fishbox. Sticking that motor way back there may be risky and the boat might not handle well. Why take a chance, do all the work and not have it run right. I dunno, I'd go to plan B.

Re: ? on Installing setback plate

The conversion you are going to do is common from I/O to O/B. You going to free up space in the boat and add stablity and floatation, they seal-up air tight. Post pictures and check-out the link above those guys will help you out.....
