Newbie here. I've have been lurking for awhile. I appreciate all I've learned on this site. I should have stopped in and said howdy sooner
The boat is a 1997 Wellcraft Excel with volvo 3.0/SX drive. When the boat is on muffs water pours out of my transom shield with little coming out of tell-tale, as seen in picture. I bought the boat last year and this problem got worse over the season. I back-flushed from intake with no leaks, filled the bilge, no water leaking. On my last run the boat started overheating at high RPM. I know it's on the output side of the cooling system.
The only thing I can think of is the Exhaust seal behind the transom shield? Any inputs what I'm up against? I'm hoping it's not a rotted transom.
I've been working on engines for a long time. I know enough about drives to be dangerous. I'd like to attempt to fix myself, change the bellows, check Gimbal bearing, and U joints while I have the drive off. I'll probably find a boat mech and pay for some education with either with cash, or pizza and beer (he watches while I turn wrenches).
Thanks in advance for your advice,
Tony
