? on removing the seal on a 71 20hp Johnson gear case assembly.

I attached the pic. Don't know what happened to the link thingy we used to have. Anyway....I'm resealing my lower unit. Can the seal on the inside be removed? It looks like there is a cap that can be removed but I don't want to take a screw driver to it yet. I looked through Brp's website and they only shows the whole piece. I'm not about to buy the whole thing. Any help would be appreciated. THX!

If I'm not mistaken, it's installed from the far side before the bushing is pressed in. I don't think you can get the bushing out to get at it. What I've had to do in the past is break away the thin aluminum covering it to get it out and the new seal back in. But then we kept our seals in a tray and it wasn't difficult to find a seal to fit. Not having a separate part number, how will you know what seal to get? The best way is to replace the bushing assy.

THX Willy. I guess I'll wing it with this one. Seems to be too much of a headache and a new one is listed for 100 beans.
