Hi all, thanks for the welcome :) been here before! So without further ado... I have reupholstered a 1991 ski/deck boat...came out great..pictures you say? I will post them in a resto. thread so I am not out o line.....I do have the 4.3 gm omc, batwing exhaust, 1990 i think as omc started two piece in 91? Plus greyish color screams 90, light blue would be pre 90 if Im not mistaken, please correct me if Im wrong. Alas these are cracked and dead.....and I have managed to hydro lock the motor. Expensive lessons in JB weld and cold stitching I might add. So as I begin my search for

1.) motor,(think Ive found a 1991, $800 "low" hours no manifolds exhaust or intake ), not sure if 91 and 90 interchange.
2.) exhaust manifolds (not sure which ones to get as I have the batwings, but was sure this was a 91 motor) either way...$500-$800
3.) gaskets (not sure which sets I will need, or what is reusable)
4.) alignment tool (likely buy one as I am busy these days)
5.) shift cable (mine is black and sticky, not sure how to check adjustment yet... read the forum, just havent applied it)
6.) shift interrupter (doesnt do anything when I thumb it manually, although it might not be connected properly... 3 wires to the distributor?...)
7.) new gauges or at least troubleshoot (they all bounce around like crazy)
I cant help but wonder if I should be repowering the whole boat with a used something else n sell off the omc parts that are so coveted? Drive is in superb condition...30 hours. I could make enough to buy a used something...but would it fit? And what would it be?
Anything I've missed? input? Guidance? Maybe someone who has done this? I know this is owner preference, but sometimes a guy needs to be a lemming an follow a crowd, or at least get a bit o advice.

Howdy,

If I had your boat, I would do what I did with my current boat (in my "signature" below)

Remove all the OMC "stuff" and replace it with Mercruiser "stuff".

You could start by selling your drive to the guy elsewhere on this forum who didn't bother to read the instructions on how to drain/refill the oil correctly in his Cobra!!

Regards,

Rick
