Do you guys rely on the onboard charger status lights, to monitor charging.

Mounting a Guest 2631 (3 bank) onboard charger under my passenger console. Plenty of room, and access to route wires to the battery compartments. But will need to lay on floor with my head under the console to see the lights. Guest says it's a fully automatic charger, and can be left on with no ill effects. Wondering if I should find a different spot so I can see the lights easier???? What do you think???

Thanks,
Gary

They are not something you need to watch everytime you set foot on or near the boat. The extension cord I use has a neon indicator in the female end so I know I have power at the end of the cord. I plug in the charger and while I may take a peak now and then it is simply not anything I ponder.

I slip my boat and check the LED's every time I enter. They will show if it's in full charge or maintenance mode, which I like to know.
Is there any way you could drill some kind of 'peephole' so you can take a look without standing on your head?
Or maybe mount the charger over a removable cupholder. Just throwing it out there.

Install a volt gauge. At least you can check to see if the starting battery is getting a charge. Plus you can tell if your motor's charging ciruit is working.

Thanks for the input. Probably gonna mount it where I originally planned, and just stand on my head the first few times I charge, just to get a feeling for it. I have a volt gauge for the starting battery. I'm more concerned with making sure I don't overcharge.

Thanks again,
Gary

Chances are being an automatic charger with 3-stage charging and indicators to show what stage it's in, if it is over-charging, which would mean it's effed up, there probably won't be a light for that...
