a safe boating course completion certificate. it doesn't have to be in the boat. i see more and more people with boats that have no ideas what they are doing.

Re: Onboard essentials

extra prop

I find that does me no good without a spare thrust washer, prop nut, and SS cotter pins.

I also carry some spare wire, wire nuts, and electrical tape.

I keep all of that stuff in a waterproof ammo tin.

Re: Onboard essentials

I carry a spare prop, prop nut, pliers (for the cotter pin) , and a plastic floating wrench to change the nut. Also pays to remove, grease up the splines (and separate the hub from the housing and grease on two piece props) at the start of the boating season so it will actually come off/apart while you are bobbing in 20 ft deep water with white caps while wearing a PFD trying to change it.

General hand tools.

PFDs.

Fresh water.

Fire/Safety/First aid stuff.

Boat Hook.

Extra Line.

Fuel Filter.

Duct tape.

Spark Plugs.

I took a boating course and STILL made lots of mistakes. I can't imagine the problems someone runs into without a boating course.

If you boat where there are crab traps you do NOT leave shore without a pair of wire cutters!!
