was looking into having on onboard gas generator installed on our 86 searay 268 weekender untill the local marina said around 7 to 8 grand for the gen and install. So what else or my options here?? Look for a junk boat that has a gen and pray that works atleast or has anyone used a carry on generator? Was looking at the new honda's there quite when running. Was thinking of installing one in the bilge then just vent the exhuast some how. Then i run into a guy at the marina who uses one and all he does is set out on his swim platform and secures it so it doesn't vibrate off..To me that doesn't sound to smart cause if water hits it your whole electrical system is now toast. So what are my options here?

You cannot install an air cooled generator in your boats bildge. Thats the reason the guy you met straps his to the swim platform....He knows better than to put it in the boat. Dangers include; heat from dry exhaust, gas fumes from vented cap on gas tank, sparks from nonshielded electrical componants, not to mention it's against Coast Guard regulations.
