Hi cvlngineer

Its a problem - you can try to wack it once right on the head with a hammer. Be carefull to only hit the head. Second is to make a hole in some plate of metal, allowing you to heat only the head of the bolt and try to loosen when cooled down. Usually only the head breaks off and rest can be removed when Cylinderhead is off. If it breaks straight with block surface I ( Rare ) would let a welder TIG weld something to it and it can be rmoved when cooled down. You will get other good advise too.

If letting it soak in pentetrant for a period and working the bolt in both directions in an attempt to prevent thread galling doesn't work, try heating the head of the bolt and transfering the heat down the bolt shank and then letting it cool "completely' before attempting removal.Sometimes nothing works short of breaking, drilling ,and tapping.

Thanks for replies. I finally got it out. Between the penetrant and the whacking it, it ruluctantly came out.

I pulled the head off and the cylinders look to be fine. The compression was good to start with, so I was hoping that I wouldn't find any problems there. The pistons, at least the tops, have some carbon on them. Is this normal? Should I clean it off?

Thanks,
cvlngineer
