Confused here. if you have EFI, you don't have carbs, let alone a "Port Side Carb". Even the carbed engines only have 1 carb.

If you haven't checked your halogen fluid lately, it might be time......low halogen fluid can keep you from seeing the light.......

If its EFI that is probably controled by the computer module and you need a special computer to access it.

Are you talking about idle problem? Do you have twin engines? It is extremely unusual for one rail to push more gas than the other one unless one is clogged...

I'll take a stab here and say that there isn't an adjustment, per say, that you can make. Aren't these controlled by an ICM of some kind? Might need to plug it in and read some codes. I could be wrong.

Re: one more post and its sold

yes i have twin 5.7 efi the port side imho is running "rich" i can smell gas and see "black smoke" at any rpms.. the strboard side is the same for the first few seconds and then its fine. the only other thing i havent checked is the timing..so i wanted to know if theres a mechanical ajustment on the throttle body or is it a computer ajustment? and i also dont know what the rail thingy is your talking about.

The rail is the fuel line to the carb/throttle body/injectors, but mainly a term for fuel injected engines. I have never seen a computer problem fixed on a forum. Bring it to a dealer. It's dumping to much gas in the motor probabaly because there is a sensor telling it to.

Cool thing about efi is that when something is wrong, the 'brain' is either telling it to do it, or the system doesn't know it's doing it. (if that makes sense)
By "telling it" something I mean it could be:
1. temp sensor saying the engine is cold therefore enacting the richening system
2. the fuel pressure is too high therefore squirting more fuel for each pulse (not likely if no one has played with the tune)
3. incoming air is choked off.

By "not knowing" that it's doing anything wrong could be:
1. leaking fuel injector(s)
2. timing/fuel tables not set correctly

there is no mechanical adjustment that I know of other than cleaning/replacing the air filter, fuel filter etc.
You should try to get a code reader for it and see what codes have been logged.

....good advise above.

In the event you do not or can not get access to a code scanner, and the fact that the other engine is operating satisfactorily, try switching sensors (one at a time) between engines and see if the problem follows.
I'd start with the Engine Temperature Sensor (NOT the sensor for the temperature gauge), followed by the Crank Position Sensor and Cam Position Sensor (if equiped) and work my way towards the module.

1997 should be a OBDII, assuming it is the same as a car of the same era. You can get a cheap reader at Harbor Freight or Wally World.

The problem will be getting the chart to determine what the code means. The reader will display a code (ex. H104) without the chart it is useless.

Smoke could mean burning oil, have you done a compression check?

^^^^^^^^
Not to hijack a thread but he said "black" smoke. I thought (correct me if wrong):

Black smoke: over rich (too high gas/air ratio)
White: steam (water getting into cylinders, exhaust manifold, etc)
Blue/gray: oil burning (rings).

Bad assumption. Boats have nothing to do with OBDII. It's all proprietary, you need the right marine ($$$$) scanner to read it. I believe the Rhinda's are still the cheapest:

What do the plugs look like? Also watch the injector and see if it is a fine spray or a drip every now and then. Also on some throttle bodys the IAC motor would carbon up ad cause back smoke.
