If I indeed endeavor on the marine engine repair shop (which is an idea I've been consider for quite some time, but it's taking a while because I'm trying to soak up all the info and advice I can before hand).

I would tend to think there is a great benefit in becomeing some what of an OEM parts VAR (vallue added reseller) and stock my shelves with the basicis of everyday needed parts (impellers, carb kits, etc), however I haven't been able to kick up any info on the web for this.

In your opinion, would I do better by signing up to carry Evinrude parts as an "Evinrude shop" (any discounts, incentives, etc), or order parts online as needed (purchase extra's for shelving) and be on my merry way?

I know there are a lot of pro / cons each way, was hoping some of you guys with experience would post your 2 cents!

Thanks

to make any money on parts, you will have to join as a dealer. if not i'm not going to buy parts from you, when i can get them at the other place cheaper.

my suggestion to go to work for someone else and learn somethings. this is a cut throat business. and YOUR reputation is all that is going to keep you in business.

Great suggestion, I've considered that as well.

I live minutes from 5 different marina's and 2 repair shops most of which are in need of mechanics. The down side is I work full time as a manufacturing engineer and late evenings and weekends only generally aren't something those places want.

We have few mechanics who work on Sunday around here. That could be your niche to start.

We need a few around here, they are few and far between, however you will not get any business from me as I do all repairs myself. You can take some stress from me though by working on my neighbours equipment.

That's funny!

I've been in the good neighbor situation a couple of times before! lol
