me and my 14yr old son were all set for a nice day
of fishing/boating yesterday morn. I had my new
tach. to install/test and eager to get some
smallmouth or whatever was biting.
it all started when I was backing the boat at the
launch. the dock is about a 20 degree angle from
the incline. I'm backing and my son is directing.
of course he's daydreaming and I get too close
and hit the dock. I NEVER have problems launching
and should have know to go home then...
well no biggie, just a 2 inch scratch. we finally
launch and get to one of our fishing holes where
we troll for fish. I break out a brand new Rapala,
let out some line and within 30 seconds I'm snagged.
so I turn around to retrieve and I notice
I'm getting very close to the end of my spool.
i'm 99% turned back when one last tug on the line
snaps it. now I've lost a brand new lure and all
of my line. we decide to drift and cast jigs and
spinners at this point. I'm sitting down putting
new line on my spool and don't notice 2 30-40ft
boats coming our way. were about 5-10 feet from
a rocky shoreline. when my son says , hey dad, we
better move out before those big waves hit us.
I turn on the motor and swing us out from shore
and then BANG! hit a big rock. lift motor and 1
blade on a BRAND NEW prop is bent about 90'. then
I realize my spare is in the trunk at the ramp.
the good news is we're not too far from the launch
and we head back as low as it'll go, motor shakin
the whole time.
got to the ramp, pulled the boat and just went home
totally defeated.
and by the way, my new tach. doesn't work either.
sure hope my lower unit isn't damaged from running
on a bent prop now.
only wish I could go back out today! LOL

Well Mellow, Ya win some and ya lose some. Did you learn from your mistakes? I never seem to. When I win a battle its out of shear Spite.

At least you got to spend some time with your son.

Did you show him how to lose the battle gracefuly or did you pull a Derwood and throw a rock at the mountian and expect it to give up before you realy get mad?

Better luck next time.

Beentherewood.

Mellow Yellow,

Sorry to hear about the prop. Was it the one I sent you? If not at least you have a spare. Your trip sounds like the kind of luck I usualy have. Better luck next time.

TRP251

thanks guys,
feces occurs! just seems sometimes a boat lowers
your IQ significantly... kinda like talking with
a beautiful woman. somehow you just turn into an
idiot :p
hey Trooper, when I got home I pulled the mangled
prop and got the nice SS prop out of the barn.
it's too big (diameter)... like I said, one of
those days! LOL
think I'll send it to Kiley... maybe she'll let
you use it? ;)
PS. how the MonArk coming along? probably not much
time to work on it right now eh?
best regards,
M.Y.

Don't feel too bad my buddy almost lost all his rods. He mad a homemade rocket launcher(multi rod holder) and was troling. His heaviest rod got hung and before the drag slipped his construction fell apart. Lucky him he was looking at it at the time and was able to grab it and keep the rods in the boat.
