Gentlemen,

I am trying to remove the gimbal ring from my Alpha 1 Gen 2 drive (to get access to the rubber bellows, for replacement) but I can't see what is holding the ring in place!! I have removed the lower pin and loosed the upper pivot bolts. I would therefore like to look at a service manual for this outdrive. A long time ago Don gave me a link for the manual online (Search will not find my post with Don's reply). Could anyone please tell me where I can find the online manual? I found this link http://www.boatfix.com/merc/Servmanl/14/14cover.pdf but it doesn't seem to be for my year? At least the model numbers don't seem to match..
I have a 4.3L V6 mercruiser from 1991 with an Alpha1 Gen 2 drive (also from 1991).

Many thanks

Gary

You have the right link there Gary, on the cover, click inside the RED box that says
Sterndrive Units
Alpha One
Generation II

That will take you to the outline
Now click on the RED box for the section you want to view.

Re: Online manual for Alpha1 gen2 drive 1991

Thanks Don,

I clicked on the main index box and ended up in a completely different manual!! Thius helped solve some of my problems (I need to buy a tool 91-78310) so that I can remove the bell housing on the stern drive to gain access to the bellows behind.
I managed to get the prop shaft bellow off and it has 2 large splits in it, there is also rust coming out of the bearing that is mounted in the transom and that the prop shaft passes through.. I assume this is the cause of my water leak!! I will inspect the UV joints to see if they are damaged, but it looks like a nasty job to get that bearing out!! The manual says to use a puller and pull the bearing out the back of the boat. Is there any reason why I could not use a large piece of wood and from in the engine bay, tap the bearing out?

Thanks for everyone's help.

Tommays,

Thanks for posting those links. They also helped me out with some instruction on how to replace the impeller in my Alpha drive. I haven't torn it down yet and was wondering if there are any other gaskets or O-Rings that need to be replaced when attaching the gear housing to the rest of the drive housing?
