Open Cooling flow

I noticed 2 different cooling flows.

Manual 15 pg 6A-53

and

Manual 24 pg 6a-26

Manual 24 has my setup with same t-stat where there are no hoses to the risors, only to the manifolds. Manual 15 has hoses to risors AND manifolds.

Why the difference?

Wondering if maybe this is why my flappers melted 2 times within 18 months. Not sure which my engine should have since it was rebuilt in 2000.

Thanks!

The ones I have seen with only the hoses to the bottom of the exhaust manifolds have been Bravo series drives. I "assumed" it was because they have a larger raw water pump, and can supply all the exhaust water needed through the manifolds.

Two completely different types of thermostat housings and what they do and how they do it, is the difference.

Forget about what is in manual 15. It has nothinig to do with your engine.
From your gauge and sender post:

Don S, remember this engine was rebuilt in 2000. The block number indicates a 2000 block.

The engine was not rebuilt in 2000, it was replaced with a new engine obviously. Since you now have a 2000 engine, completely forget about manual 15, it will do nothing but confuse you.

Flappers melt due to lack of water. Did the engine overheat? You didn't use blockoff type gaskets between the exhaust manifold and riser did you.

Re: Open Cooling flow

Thanks Don for clearing up the Manual deal. That has been a long battle this past year.

I used open gaskets ( holes on 4 sides ).

thanks for following.
