I just realized I may have originally posted this in the wrong forum - should have been posted in this forum (non repair)- sorry)
1997-Mercury 4 Cylinder Tiller Steer Model C40ELHPTO
I'm considering purchasing this motor for a fishing boat, and if I'm going to do it need to pull the trigger in the next week and I need some help. This motor appears to be in excellent condition cosmetically. But I'm more concerned with the mechanical side.
Based on the model number above I believe this is a 1997 motor?? This is a 2 stroke / 4 cylinder motor.
If anyone (particularly a mechanic has any experience with this motor I would really appreciate knowing if this has a reputation for being a good motor and any known the pros and cons (things to look out for on this motor). The shift is in the handle and I like that feature. The compression is good and it spits a real solid stream of water.
I didn't know Merc made a 4 Cylinder back then. Should it run smooth at trolling speed? Also if I decided to put a power trim on it where would I look into that and how much would I expect to spend.
Any and all feedback good or bad would be greatly appreciated.
I really appreciate any and all feedback provided., Thanks
Dan
