I'm looking to purchase my first boat, and am looking for some information. I'm looking for a boat that will tow a tube easily, haul a few people (6-8?), tow/launch easily. I know very little about boats, which MFG's are better then others etc. I've heard to stay away from Bayliners, and Sea Rays are a better quality boat. Locally, there is a 2003 Glastron 195 SX with the Volvo 5.7L GL engine for sale. Seller doesn't know the hours since it doesn't have an hour meter. (I would have thought all boats have hour meters). He said he bought the boat three years ago and has put 5-15 hours per year on it. What would be a good price for this boat in the midwest? Anything good or bad about the Volvo 5.7? What is the HP?

Thanks!

Sounds like a decent boat. As far as price goes, you should start with nadaguides.com to get a sense for what it's worth. Be sure to price the trailer out too (that's done separately). Once you have the price, you'll want to negotiate that down based on condition of the boat, and what similar boats in your area are selling for.

5-15 hrs per year doesn't seem like much use was made of it. But I guess some people do buy boats, and don't really use them. You'll want to be sure everything is up to par mechanically, and do a test drive. The 5.7L would set you up with plenty of power (maybe too much?), and I believe they are 270hp. I have the 5.0 and like it so far.
