Evening Folks!

I'm considering purchasing a Bayliner Capri as my first boat. I was wondering if anybody here could give their honest opinion/comments on whether this boat might be worth it. I'm probably goin to drive over this Saturday (4 hr trip, mind you) to check it out. Are there any other tips/hints on what I could look for when evaluating this boat? Are there any specific issues with this make/model that I should be aware of? The ad says its a cierra, but I've already called and confirmed otherwise. Anything you guys could advise me on would be GREATLY appreciated!

Re: Opinions anyone?

I had a 1992 Bayliner Capri Classic. Similar but not exactly the same. Mine had a 3.0L in it. I personally was very pleased with it, I thought that it preformed well & had no real trouble with it. This one has a V-6 so it should perform very good. The boat can get banged in heavy chop, but that isn't an issue to this specific model. You might want to pay close attention to the floor. I think that mine was starting to have some problems when I got rid of it. the one seam (near the front seats) was starting to coming up, you could feel it in the carpet when you walked on it. Other than that a real nice boat for the money IMHO. I now have Ciera 2355. That is definitely a Capri !!!

One other thing.... I did look at a Capri like this one before I bought my Capri Classic. The one thing that I wondered about is if boarding the Capri from the side would be hard to do since the side windows come so far back as opposed to the Capri Classic. Don't know if this would be a minor issue for you or not. Just so you know I didn't buy the Capri because it was in terrible shape from owner neglect but it did apper that it would have been a nice boat had it been taken care of.

Here's a link to the Bayliner Owners Club. Ask around in there. It's a great site.

I have a 20' 1991 Capri bowrider which is very similar (near identical) to that bow with the exception of mine is 2 feet longer and has the 305 V8. The price looks about right, I paid $4095 for mine. So far, no real issues. Just regular maintenence. Its a fun boat - you won't be dissapointed.

I currently have a 19 foot bayliner and have had really no issues with the boat, I'd check The floor for soft spots, check the bottem of seats for any rot, tap on the transom to check for rot, if it sounds hollow, walk away, check engine oil for water intrusion ( it will be milky colored ) same for the outdrive, try to get a on the water test, this will be the very telling of the boat, note any viberations ( could be bent prop shafts or a bad prop ), see if the shfting is smooth and engaging, check out the trailer, are the bunks rotten?, tires in good shape?,do the lights work?, does the winch work?,I'd find out from Bayliner what the boat weight is, and what the trailer weighs ang go to a public scale and have it weighed, if it's really over rhe weight by 300=500 lbs, that usually means the floation foam is water logged, I can think of a million other things to say but I don't want to scare you from buying a boat, remember there is nothing wrong with a bayliner, it's usually the previous owner that messed things up
