I thought i would try something different this time. Usually I buy something then find out its shortcomings, this time I am trying to find them before I buy. I am looking at a 1996 XP 200, I have heard of some problems with OMC that lead to their demise. Were any of these gremlins plaguing this model? Any specific problems I should look for outside of a compression test and sea trial?

Excellent motors. They are just like any other outboard, if set up, run amd maintained properly they will last for decades.

Good luck!

Thanks for the reply! On the way to get the 200 boat I stopped at another lot and bought a 130 V4 boat that looks to be in much better shape. I have always heard good things about OMC V-4s in real life and on this site. The last sticker was an '02 so I am gonna do the carbs, gear oil, impeller, and de-carbonize. Have done compression test all between 145 and 155 so I am thinking I am ok on rings. I have read many posts and t-stats seem to come up often, do they go bad pretty often? This is a freshwater only boat and will continue to be.
